Hello there!
I’m reaching out because, according to my best guess of haphazardly filtering my email list, you might not yet have subscribed to Train Songz or purchased a standalone copy of our latest issue, “Doin’ My Zine.”
Copies will start mailing out Monday, so you still have time to get in with the first batch!
We made 1,750 hand-numbered first prints…
1,229 of those are already out the door, so we have 521 left!
If you choose to subscribe at any point in 2025, you will get all four zines from 2025 (#5–8). If you’re interested in back issues from 2024 (#1-4), there’s more information on how to get them inside this issue.

$11 gets you:
44 pages of obsessively niche print-only content
2 mystery stickers
$11 gets me:
Enough to break even and make more zines, since each issue costs around $11,000 to make
“That’s a lot of money for a little book!”
Yes, because we pay all 20+ artists and contributors—at least $20 an hour or a fair flat rate! I’ve had jobs for companies worth billions that have paid me less than that by the hour. Capitalism, baby!
$11 is pretty much break-even cost, assuming we sell 1,000. We take sponsorships to help us pay business expenses and give back, like paying BMFSDB’s web fees and donation over $4,000 last year to bluegrass-related causes, on top of zine production.
If $11 for an issue or $44 for the year isn’t in the budget right now, we have a free annual subscription application. We give out 1 for every 10 sold. We currently have 870 subscribers and a free list of 120, so we’ve given out 87 free and 33 folks are on the waiting list.
By the way, if you’re not longer interested in Train Songz in general, consider this a reminder to unsubscribe from my emails…there’s a link at the bottom of this email to do so.
